"...I started to get this feeling like I honestly cannot see myself working a regular 9 to 5. I cannot see myself working for a cooperate business. I don't want to just set my own hours or do what I want. I just want to do what I love and help people. I want to create things. I grew up not even fully understanding my gifts. I grew up not knowing how far it could take me..." - June 22, 2015
To work a 9 to 5 or not? Having a job is a blessing. There are many people who are wanting jobs, but have you ever had that desire to where you wanted to create jobs instead? We are living through an interesting time. We are the future ladies and the cards are in our hands. They have their preconceived notions about millennials let alone women, but at the end of the day God has a purpose for us all. We may not know everything, but one of the greatest messages that I have received was that inexperience was a gift. It allows for more innovation; it allows for a new and fresh perspective.
But really to work a 9 to 5 or not? I tried to follow the most realistic career paths as I could during college. I thought about maybe being a teacher, social worker, PR practitioner- I even thought about campus relations. In all, they led no where and were pursued for only a moment or I was removed from certain situations. I just knew that me working on campus in event planning that it was a good stepping stone to my career either in PR or working on campus. However, God said otherwise. My parents would always say "graduate, get that good job, and make a lot of money," but I always felt that there was more to life than this. That every experience that I was gaining would be utilized for my own purposes...I just didn't quite know what that was...
I felt very confused during that time. You may feel confused right now. Just about what direction you should take. AGAIN to work a 9 to 5 or not? I remember this moment of where I was sitting in our schools computer lab feeling torn between what I should do- frantically looking for a corporate job, because that's what my parents were saying I should do, but at the same time I was trying to go to grad school and learn more about the fashion industry- I knew what I was interested in. Then at that trying to find a job and not really hearing anything back- I was like "I'm just about to start selling things!" It's like we are the future, but we keep putting our future into other people's hands- it should only be in Gods hands...and besides the future really belongs to those who believes in the beauty of their dreams (whatever direction it is in)
Some signs might me be there already on whether or not you should work a 9 to 5:
1. You may feel as though you're lacking purpose. You're probably like what am I doing here?
2. You may feel as though that lifestyle is too mundane. Go to work, come home, maybe workout, cook dinner, then go to bed and wake up to do it all over again. This may sound boring to you and you may feel like there is more to life.
3. You may feel like your voice isn't being heard and that there is more you can contribute!
4. You become restless easily. The idea of working 8 hour days, while sitting behind a desk freaks you out!
5. The concept of retiring confuses you. You want to work. You want to do what you love for the rest of your life! Ain't no retirement bih. You want to live in your purpose.
Everyone is going to have an opinion and tell you how you should live your life. Take what they say into consideration, but don't let them make decisions for you. Some people are not cut out for a 9 to 5. Some people are not cut out to run their own business...both are a lifestyle...however you decide for you. The best time to take that risk is when you are young. It's not about being successful right away. It's about the path you are wanting to go down. What kind of life do you want to live and who do want to live for? You or them? ...
